The Getaway is singer Chris de Burgh's sixth original album, released on A&M Records in It was the first studio album of de Burgh's to chart in the UK, following the compilation Best Moves a year earlier. The album peaked at number 30 in the UK and spent 16 weeks on the chart. In the week beginning 7 February , the album went to the top of the album charts in the then West Germany.

  9. One of De Burgh's most solid effort period. The production and Rupert's keyboard work are of high caliber and full of tasteful timbres. This is very far beyond the early folksy style of music De Burgh wrote in the 70's instead you get a very 80's modern recording with the usual De Burgh story laden songs most of which revolve around revolution and freedom/5().
